Pearl Municipal Golf Course first opened in the 1960s as a private 9-hole course. The course was taken over by the City of Pearl in 1989 and expanded to an 18-hole course. Frank 'Max' Maxwell, Jr. did the design work.
The design is unique in that the front nine holes are entirely different from the back nine. The front nine features fairly flat, wide open fairways, while the back nine has tight, short fairways with many mature trees lining the sides. The fairways on the back nine holes are also hilly and undulating. A majority of the greens are elevated.
